Your Branding Strategist & Marketer
For prospective employers to seek you out over others in your field, job seekers wishing to advance in their careers must identify, define, build, and market their Personal Brand. Because this concept is difficult for people to do on their own, hiring a skilled Personal Branding Strategist and Marketer is the best way to help you define and market your brand.
YOUR PERSONAL BRAND & CAREER MANAGEMENT
Brand management plays a strategic role in your career management. Managing your brand much the same way a firm manages a brand is your key to success. And by applying marketing techniques to help brand you in your career allows you to manage it successfully.
When you have successfully defined your own perceived value to your prospective employers, it increases your brand equity and return on investment to others, and thereby your own profitability. Applying your Personal Brand during an interview and subsequent job offer, for example, will help you negotiate a higher salary, because prospective employers see your perceived value as a high return on investment for them. If done correctly, it compels them to seek you out!
STEPS TO IDENTIFY AND DEFINE YOUR BRAND
1.Define your challenge.
What do you want to achieve?
2.Identify your target market.
3.List your top 10 features / core competencies.
Document a list of all of your assets and strengths. Your personal attributes, characteristics, and core competencies that help you succeed. Your talents. Your skills. Your expertise. Your achievements. Compare yourself with other like-minded peers to determine how you are unique and different from others.
4.Identify how these features benefit your prospective employer.
Explore and identify all of the ways each of your features helps you in your job. Next to each of your features, cite the various ways each are beneficial to an employer. For example, being an effective problem-solver may help you to strategize effective solutions to certain types of business problems.
5.Determine your competitive edge versus your counterparts.
How do these benefits differentiate you from others? Ask yourself,
“What makes me unique?”
“What is it that I have that others do not?”
“How do I stand our from the crowd?”
“How do my assets help in my career?”
“What need am I best positioned to fill?”
“What makes me a more attractive job seeker or employee than others in my field?”
6.Define the value proposition of your benefits.
Ask yourself, “What do I stand for?” “What do I have that adds value to a prospective employer?”
7.Calculate your return on investment to employers.
This may be in terms of a dollar amount or percentage and/or by showcasing the value you have to offer your target market by means of matching achievements you have done for others that met their needs head-on.
8.Write your personal brand message containing all of the above.
How do we tie all of these wonderful things together to create the unique, authentic brand called “You”? Ask yourself, “What makes me compelling to others?”
9.Market your personal brand message everywhere.
Repeatedly get the word out in your networking and all communications, in person, on the phone, online, in your resume and cover letter, within your Web Portfolio, in all of your social networking, everywhere.
